Noelia's Family

We met Noelia after she had knocked on our door a few times asking about the home building ministry.  She always had her children with her.  As we got to know her better, we learned more about her story.

Noelia is a single mom of 4 kids.  Her husband left them when he met another woman and hasn't been back since.  The kids are precious.  Noelia works hard to provide, but it's hard because while her oldest 2 are in school, she has to take care of the younger two all day.

When we finally visited Noelia's home we were saddened by the conditions.  It was basically made of tarp, with some tin patchwork.  Dirt floors, which because of the rain was nothing less than a mud pool.  There was one bed, which all 5 of them slept on.

Later, when Mike and Marilyn Johnson were visiting, we visited Noelia's family.  They connected immediately.  With both of their daughters single moms at one point (one still), they related with Noelia's challenges and understood firsthand how difficult it can be.  More than a sponsor for a new home, they began a friendship that would continue to grow.

Soon construction was underway and finally the house was finished.  With a group from Journey Church in town we were able to build her a kitchen and bathroom.  In addition, the donors gave new beds, linens, a kitchen table, and a stove. 

When Noelia and her family arrived at the new home location it was a huge surprise, as they were not expecting the additional gifts.  Their sponsor was able to be there for the celebration.  It was a special, and emotional time together.

We're looking forward to a deeper friendship with Noelia.  It is also exciting in this case because of the friendship between the family and their sponsor.  Our hope is that as both friendships develop, Noelia and her family can better understand God's love for her.
