Recently we have had the privledge of practicing some James 1:27 style “true religion”, as we are currently building homes for 2 widows, Timotea & Valentina

TIMOTEA

Sponsor:  Dan & Rachelle Cronin

We met Timotea during the construction of her son Berter’s home.  Ever since we've known her, she has had somewhat of a  “rough edge.”  She is direct and straight forward, which is unusual for the polite culture here!

She lives on the same plot of land as her 4 or 5 sons and their families.  But amazingly, while they live in safer and warmer block homes, she lives alone in the kitchen.

The kitchen is a separate, tiny, shack made of cornstalk and tin, with mud/dirt floors.

Maybe that explains her rough edge.

Timotea doesn’t even have a bed.  At night, she unrolls an old, dirty, weaved mat onto the floor.  (Yes, these men allow their mother to live and sleep this way while they are right next door in much better home.)  When I have asked them about it they simply say “we have our families.”

**side note…  this is why we are beginning a ministry to focus on the boys, to teach about love, respect, integrity, etc!

As soon as we received a sponsor for Timotea (Dan & Rachelle Cronin from Charlotte, NC), we started construction as soon as we could.

With the rainy season hitting full force, Timotea will soon have a nice, warm, safe place to call home.  At 67 years old, I think she deserves at least that.

Soon after meeting Timotea, we had the pleasure of meeting her mom, Valentina.  read more about that here...
